Smart Sub2.8R – Active Dual 18-inch Subwoofer System

The Smart Sub2.8R is a high-performance active subwoofer system featuring two 18-inch (460 mm) long-excursion transducers housed in separate bass-reflex enclosures.

The optimized bass-reflex design reduces turbulence and port noise at high sound pressure levels while improving low-frequency efficiency and extending the response down to 35 Hz.

Amplification and DSP

The system is powered by a high-performance Class-D multi-channel amplifier module designed for high-output applications. In bridged configuration, it delivers up to 2 × 1500 W at 8 Ω, providing the ideal power platform for robust dual subwoofer systems such as the Smart Sub2.5R and Smart Sub2.8R.

Audio accuracy is ensured by a fixed-frequency switch-mode output stage that minimizes intermodulation artifacts, combined with the advanced “Control Plus” board, which improves signal-to-noise ratio by up to +6 dB.

The Smart amplifier module is an extremely compact integrated solution, combining power supply, output stage, DSP, and connectors within a single lightweight and protected chassis. Full compatibility across the Smart Series simplifies system design and ensures seamless integration.

As with all Smart products, the amplifier module is fully DSP-controlled, enabling advanced loudspeaker tuning through a wide range of processing algorithms. A programmable DSP platform also enables network connectivity and system control.

Integration with the Armonía Pro Audio Suite allows users to customize system performance and load four factory presets optimized for common professional applications.

Performance and Applications

The Smart Sub2.8R is designed for maximum versatility in premium sound reinforcement applications, including theaters, touring systems, portable live sound, corporate events, and concert halls.

It is ideal as a foundation subwoofer system in small to medium-sized venues, and can also be used in larger systems for front-fill, in-fill, out-fill, or drum-fill applications when combined with Smart Series full-range systems.

Installation and Rigging

The system features an integrated M20 threaded pole mount on the top panel, allowing Smart full-range loudspeakers to be directly mounted above the subwoofer for efficient and compact system deployment.

A full range of rigging accessories enables flexible installation options for touring and fixed applications.

Construction and Integration

The cabinet is constructed from marine-grade birch plywood and finished with a durable, impact- and weather-resistant PCP (polyurea cabinet protection) coating, ensuring long-term reliability in demanding environments.

Thanks to its compact design, high output capability, and lightweight construction, the Smart Sub2.8R is highly portable and well suited for mobile applications.
